5 Ways to Go on Holiday on a Budget

There are two things the majority of people have in common on Britain right now – we love a bargain, and we’re all in need of a good holiday. I’ve put together some ways that you can fulfil both of those needs, getting away from the hustle and bustle without spending a fortune for the pleasure. Here are five ways to go

Make the most of local connections

Most of us have friends all over the country thanks to the ease of online friendships, so if you’re thinking of getting away for a break its worth checking to see if you know anybody close by. You could always make a map of friends and family that you want to visit and travel around the country, so that you have an opportunity to see as many people that you care about on your holiday as you can – in exchange for a space on their couch, of course.

Get together a group holiday

The best thing about going on holiday is making memories with people that you care about, and that doesn’t have to stop at your immediate family. Team up with another family, or a group of friends, and look at how you can find accommodation that you can all share and split the cost without any additional fees. You could even list your home with the Airbnb Management company so that you can earn money on your home the whole time that you’re away. That means that while costs are low because you’re shared the price around you all, your holiday could even end up free if you earn enough in your absence.

Use fare splitting websites

I always shied away from fare-splitting websites because I thought it all sounded a bit confusing, and I worried that I’d have to keep getting on and off trains and coaches just to save a few quid on my ticket. In reality, some fare splitting can get you a huge discount for the exact train, route and even seat that you’re already sitting in, just by making sure that your ticket contains the cheapest options available for your journey. It might mean you end up with a wallet full of train tickets, but at least you can travel much more cheaply.

Subscribe to as many travel sites as you can

I can definitely be guilty of ignoring the masses of newsletters and promotional codes that appear in my inbox every day, but if you’re planning a holiday then now is a great time to start paying attention. Subscribing to newsletters generally gives you a small discount from that website, but signing up to travel websites also means that the content of those newsletters may include further savings that you can put towards that once-in-a-lifetime experience. I wonder how many unused coupon codes we all have sitting in our inboxes right now!

Don’t shy away from a package deal

Many people prefer to book elements of their holidays separately because they don’t want to get tied into an all-inclusive holiday, worrying that it might be limiting. In reality, there is no requirement to stay on site on an all-inclusive trip, but its a great way to make sure that all of your meals are sorted for the whole time you’re away, so the option is always there to fall back on. Look for all-inclusive deals or even trips that market themselves to certain age groups, such as 18-35 coach holidays, for a way to minimise costs but make the most of your experience.   How do you keep costs low when you are travelling?
