4 Ways Technology Could Help Us Get Closer to Nature

The battle between technology and nature is a tale as old as time – or at least as old as computers! While some believe that technological advancements are the future of education and innovation, others prefer to stay connected to nature and trust the natural environment. However, what if technology and nature could be combined? Technology does not necessarily negate the input of nature, and there may be ways that it can be used to facilitate a relationship between people and their environment. Here are four ways that technology could help us get closer to nature, inspired by Veissmann. technology

Making the most out of augmented reality

I am a big believer in allowing children to use screens to their advantage as an educational tool, and a big way that this is able to happen is through augmented reality. Augmented reality, or AR, technology offers a digital overlay over real life objects or structures, where more information can be provided. For example, somebody studying a piece of art could use augmented reality to learn more about the artist and other pieces of work that they had done. A way that this could be implemented in future inventions, is that AR technology could bring children face to face with digital versions of animals that they would never have the chance to meet, and have an up close and personal experience with them. This is as close as somebody can get to a hands-on way of learning about nature.

Pollination drones

While pollination drones are already being worked on as a way to make up for the shortage of bees in the world, there are already future plans for how we can interact with these drones in order to play our part in nature. One such suggestion is that the pollen from the drones would stick to the fibres of human clothing, allowing us to carry them freely until they were deposited on the flowers themselves – essentially making us bees, too! There is no better way to get closer to nature than to become part of it.

Using smart glasses in a smart way

Smart glasses use augmented reality technology in a variety of ways already. For example, there are tourism apps which will guide people around new locations, and you can read messages within your field of view among many other exciting innovations. Future plans for smart glasses are incredibly exciting, and some of them can aid in bringing us closer to the environment, such as having the means to automatically detect the level of air pollution in a specific environment so that we can modify our behaviours and look after the world.

Help us look after the environment

Technology is fantastic because it helps us save costs in all kinds of ways. From applying vouchers when we buy something online, to being able to tell us how much our energy usage is costing us on a daily basis. Even better than the cost, though, is an app that tells you about the environmental impact of your decisions, such as how you are looking after nature by limiting the length of your shower. Future innovations may make this entirely possible, which means that making conscious decisions about the world around us and how we interact with it is going to become much more accessible.   Are you somebody who likes to learn about new technologies and how they can help us progress, or do you prefer to stick to more traditional methods?
