4 Ways to Expand Your Home Storage

No matter who you are and how big your home is, most of us struggle from time to time with knowing the best places to store things. If your home is on the smaller side you might feel like you are bursting at the seams, but a few clever solutions can transform your storage experience and make your home much more manageable. Here are four ways to expand your home storage. Home Storage

Look up for empty space

Most of us would look at a floor plan when deciding where to put our next lot of shelving, but there is actually a whole load of unused space in most of our homes, on the top third of the wall. This is a great place for floating shelves, but my all time favourite way to use this space is to create a cat playground, where they can sleep and play and keep their minds stimulated, all the while freeing up floor space because there is no more need for cat trees or scratching posts on the ground.

Make the most of your outdoor space

Not everybody is lucky enough to have an outdoor space, but if you have got anything to work with then this is a great chance to extend your storage. Not only is a garden great because you can add structures that will hold things for you, like sheds and workshops with plenty of shelving, but garage storage is a great way to ensure that your belongings are in a safe and – most importantly – watertight place, for your own peace of mind. You might not realise just how much space you have in your garage, especially if you have a large car or lots of bikes, but actually if you use clever shelving to line the walls you would be surprised by how much you can store.

Use furniture with built in storage solutions

It might seem difficult to work out a way to have all of the furniture that you need AND find ways to build storage in around that, but you could try combining the two and using furniture in your home that offers you a built-in storage solution. For example a Divan bed is a great way to give yourself more space to hide things away underneath, and you could even get an Ottoman style couch that opens up to provide you that same level of space.

Ensure that your loft works for you

Many homes have a loft space that comes as standard, but because of building degradation and the space not being looked after, many people find that their loft is not usable for the amount of storage that they require. Make your loft work for you by spending time on the flooring, ensuring it is a safe place to support the weight of all of your storage (as well as you, when you stand in there to put things away!) and install racking along the walls to make the most of the space that is available to you.   Is finding storage a constant problem in your life, or are you somebody who prefers things to stay a little bit more minimalistic?
