Things I Want in my Ideal Kitchen
I love cooking. Not only is it a great way to impress people that you are entertaining, but cooking is a fantastic way to get lost in a recipe and forget about all of the stress of the day. The only way to make cooking better is to be doing it in your ideal kitchen, so I spend a lot of time fantasising about what I would include in mine. Here’s what I want in my ideal kitchen.
Kitchen island
I have always wanted a kitchen island for as long as I can remember. I think it brings a certain level of class to the way a kitchen looks, as well as being really functional. A kitchen island can serve as a breakfast bar for you and your guests, or an additional worktop or serving station. I would probably get a sink and a built-in chopping board on my kitchen island, because I am all about the convenience that this would bring me.Quirky wall art
It’s not just about how the kitchen functions, but its how it looks too. I want my kitchen to be a space where people walk in and are blown away – black marble countertops, sleek stainless steel equipment, and some bright and quirky wall art to inject some of my personality into the overall design. Not only is this going to make it look so much better, but it can be a great talking point for the days I am entertaining.Gadgets to free up counter space
I hate clutter when it comes to my kitchen sides. In fact, the less on there the better – it means I’ll have more space for preparing food! I like to do things like hanging up unused pots and pans, using a magnetic knife rack, and wall-mounting as much of my equipment (spices, cups etc) as I can, so this means that my counter space is all my own. In the eventuality, then, that I do need to bring out a piece of equipment like a food processor, I’m not going to be stressed out by clearing a space for it on the worktop.LED lighting
I’d be willing to argue that all of the coolest kitchens that have ever existed have had LED lighting in them. Not throughout the whole room, but bright colours shining out from the underneaths of worktops – it looks sleek and cool, and is exactly the vibe that I would be looking for in designing my ideal kitchen.A big dining table
Many people choose to keep their dining space separate from their kitchen. I get the mentality – you want space to cook, and if you have guests you don’t want the stress of the kitchen ruining the joviality of the dining experience. But I like to think that the cooking of the meal and entertaining people are two sides of the same coin, so my ideal kitchen would have the dining table right there so I am experiencing everything with my guests. What would your ideal kitchen look like? I’d love to hear what you think – I might even get some more ideas for my one! This is The Chequers Bath blog, a lifestyle blog mostly focussing on food, travel and general lifestyle posts.
