5 Ideas to Make a Play Area in the Garden

5 Ideas to Make a Play Area in the Garden

While it’s a blessing to have a garden, it can sometimes get a little bit overwhelming to work out how best to utilise it so that it’s as fun as possible for your kids. There are all kinds of small things that you can do in the garden that can make a huge difference, it’s just knowing where to start. I thought I’d put together some suggestions for people who are struggling to know what to do. Here are five ideas to make a play area in the garden. 5 Ideas to Make a Play Area in the Garden

Let your kids play in a mud kitchen

Children love imaginative play, especially when it comes to acting like a grown up. That’s why popping some old pots and pans outside to create a mud kitchen is a definite must if you want to give your kids something fun to do in the garden in their play area. While some people go all-out and create a fully plumbed sink area and make a little cooker for the kids, really all you need is some pots and pans and wooden spoons – and of course, lots of mud! Have the children make some toy condiments for their little mud kitchen, and you could even play mud cafe together.

Set up a climbing frame for play area

If there is one thing that you can bank on, its that kids like to have something they can get up and climb all over. That’s why a kids climbing frame is a definite must for any garden. A climbing frame is not just a climbing frame to a child – in fact, there is no limit to what it is! It’s a pirate ship, an adventure playground, a rocketship and everything in between, and you can truly only imagine where their imagination will take them. If you want a sure-fire way to make your children happy in their garden, then shopping at Wickey for a climbing frame is an absolute must.

Give your kids some chalk

When you’re a child, you definitely don’t need to be limiting yourself to pen and paper – which is why a set of chalks are a great idea for the garden! For younger children, a set of jumbo chalks and a pavement or wall are a surefire way to see hours go by in the blink of an eye. Not only that, but they are fantastic for practising fine motor skills and how to hold a pencil.

Space for the kids to unwind

Kids might be a bundle of energy most of the time, but it’s a good idea to have somewhere for them to unwind too so that they don’t struggle with sensory overload. A great idea for this is somewhere with shading so that the kids can get away, potentially somewhere enclosed, and with decorations such as windchimes and suncatchers to give them something to focus on while they kick back and relax.

Bubbles and wet play

There’s nothing a child likes quite as much as making a mess! Wet play is the perfect way for a kid to make a mess in the garden, because it’s only water and there is no actual clean up after they have finished playing. Make things more exciting for the kids by adding bubbles to the water, so they can experiment with bubbles and chase them around the garden. When they have finished for the day, simply pour the water away – just make sure not to pour any bubble mixture over any plants!   Have you created a play area for your kids in the garden? Share in the comments what you have done.
