5 Practical Methods to Combat Stress

Stress is a natural reaction to your environment, but it can become problematic when stress becomes chronic. The negative effects of stress can impact your physical and mental health, productivity, relationships, and more. It’s important to know how to combat stress before it starts to take a toll on your life.

combat stress

1. Take Control

With so much going on in our lives, it can be difficult to find the time to get everything done. When you’re in control, it’s easier to stay focused and remain calm. Plan ahead when you can and be open when plans change. That’ll help you stay on track and continue to make the most of your day. Wake up 15 minutes earlier than usual. Allow the extra time to get to your appointments. Don’t procrastinate on tasks that are important or urgent. Do anything you need to do, right away. Do difficult tasks early, so that you won’t have to worry about them later.

2. Do/Watch Things That Make You Laugh

Laughing is a natural and healthy way to improve mood and well-being. The more we laugh, the happier we feel. Laughing enhances creativity and promotes healing. And laughter strengthens the immune system because endorphins (happy chemicals) are released in the body when we laugh. Pop on a comedy show or take regular Tiktok breaks, even play your favourite Solitaire Bliss game online.

3. Get Moving

Whether it’s a quick walk around the garden or a swimming session, moving can help you destress massively. Your chosen movement can also improve sleep and give you time to think and focus on other things. Just don’t overdo it and it can have adverse effects and cause more stress.

4. Talk To Friends

A problem shared is a problem halved, isn’t that the saying? I know when I’m stressed out nothing helps more than talking about it with friends. Especially if you have positive friends, they’re the best ones to go to as they might be able to offer insight and advice that you can’t see yourself right now. Try hanging out and spending time together, plan something fun and pick up a Murder Mystery Party Kit. Being around loved ones always makes things feel better.

5. Make Sure You’re Eating and Drinking

Being low on certain vitamins and minerals can affect you both mentally and physically, therefore not helping with stressful times. Eating healthy meals regularly, drinking lots of water, and even taking some extra vitamin D (personally I love a spray version) can really help boost your moods and reduce your stress.
