Think about your garden’s function
Every garden has a purpose. It might be that your garden is a space for you to grow vegetables, or to look pretty with all sorts of exotic florals, and many people use their gardens as an outdoor social space. Deciding on your garden’s function will help you know what steps you need to take to prepare for the Summer, whether that is providing shade to wilting vegetables or looking at garden furniture sets to make the most of your time outside in the warmth.Give the grass a going over
One of the best Summer smells is freshly cut grass, so now is the time to get your lawnmower out and make sure your garden is looking neat and tidy. Not only is cutting your grass regularly important to look after the health of your lawn, but add treatment to the grass to keep it looking green and luscious through the Summer months, and try and get out and keep it watered if you don’t have a sprinkler system as the sunshine can dry grass out really quickly.Wash your BBQ
Most people will wash their BBQ before putting it away at the end of the season, so that there are no more food remnants to find next year, but when they take it out next Summer it’s still not quite ready to use. Not only does dust tend to form despite your best efforts, but the grill is a great place to create cobwebs, and there’s nothing worse than getting excited about having a BBQ, taking it out of storage and finding that you can’t use it that day. Eliminate this stress by washing your BBQ in advance of the first day you’re doing it – and stock up on charcoal for it at this stage too, to beat the crowds!Update your seating area
My garden is definitely a social space for my family and our friends, so I make sure that I have decent seating so that everybody can relax at all times. I recently discovered kettler garden furniture and I love how it is clearly made for socialising outside – you can tell from the large couches that are curved or squared around a table. Food always tastes better when it is eaten outside in my opinion too, so having seating with a table attached is a must for me – with a citronella candle to keep the flies away, of course!Pop up a birdhouse
I recently put a birdhouse up in my garden, and can’t believe how much wildlife there actually is out there. The birdhouse is next to a feeder which I put seeds and fat balls in, so I am able to draw all sorts to the garden and it’s great to be able to sit outside early in the morning and watch birds that I’ve never even seen before getting their breakfast. Plus the sound of them chirping is a relaxing way to start the day. Is your garden ready for the Summer? What do you do to prepare for the Summer months?
