Patience
Business is ever-changing, especially if it is a new business that is growing. With those changes there can be times when things don’t seem like they are going according to plan, or you need to trust the process for the end result you are looking for. A good employer will be patient and understand that their team is working to the best of their ability to reach a result that everybody is happy with – which means if there are any issues, they are handled in a calm and productive way, rather than with any frustration.Generosity
While there is no requirement for an employer to be treating their employees to extravagant bonuses every month, there is something to be said for an employer who lets their team know how appreciated they are. Whether that’s a team bonding night where you all go bowling and have some pizza, or a wine tasting Seattle experience that takes up a weekend, there are all kinds of ways that you can treat your team – and a team that feels looked after, is always going to want to work harder for their boss.Compassion
As an employer, your most important task is looking after the wellbeing of your employees – you wouldn’t be where you are without a successful team working behind you. That means that having compassion for your team and their personal lives is essential, and understanding that there may be times where they need to briefly step away, or require a bit more support from you.Adaptability
Things are always changing in business at the last minute. Whether it’s because a deadline was missed somewhere and you are having to rearrange a project, or because you are pressing ‘click here’ on a flight to go and meet with an important investor on the brink of changing their mind, there is always going to be a reason that things can change at the last minute. That’s why it is important that if you own a business, you need to be able to adapt to anything, and this is especially important for an employer who needs to adapt to meet the needs of their team.Perseverance
There are no successful business owners who haven’t had to persevere in order to achieve what they have got, which is why this trait is absolutely essential for a good employer. An employer who is able to persevere can see projects through to the end, and learn more about the best ways to do things within the industry rather than going for whatever is easiest. To put it simply, the best business owners are the tortoise, not the hare. What do you think it takes to be the best employer? Are there any other traits that you think a good business owner should have?
