5 Summer Hygiene Essentials

Summer’s brilliant for a lot of reasons. Beer gardens, longer days, fewer layers, and if you’re lucky, the odd weekend away or cheeky BBQ. But the heat also brings its own problems. Sticky skin, awkward sweat patches, the dreaded summer breath, you get the idea. Staying clean and comfortable takes a bit more effort once the temperature starts climbing.

Over the years, I’ve tested my way through all sorts of stuff to build a solid summer hygiene routine. I’ve narrowed it down to a few go-to products that make a real difference, especially if you’re on the move a lot, socialising more, or just want to avoid feeling like a melted puddle by lunchtime.

summer hygiene

Here are five things I always keep stocked in summer, proper everyday essentials that actually work and help you feel sorted, whatever the weather throws at you.

1. Marvis Toothpaste – Looks Good, Works Even Better
There’s toothpaste, and then there’s Marvis toothpaste. The first time I tried it, I thought it was just nice packaging, but it’s actually one of the best I’ve used. The flavours are punchy, especially the mint ones, and it gives you that proper fresh-mouth feel that lasts hours. No weird aftertaste, no chalky texture. Just crisp, clean, fresh.

It’s perfect for summer when you want your breath to feel like it’s had an upgrade, especially if you’re heading out for food or drinks in the heat. A small detail, but it makes a big impact.

2. Toothpaste That Does More Than Just Clean
I keep a few different types of toothpaste on rotation depending on what my teeth are dealing with. One I always come back to is a good remineralisation of tooth enamel product. Heat means more cold drinks, more ice in everything, and usually more sugar too. If your teeth are on the sensitive side or you just want to strengthen your enamel, it’s a must.

It helps rebuild the surface of your teeth and stops that horrible zapping feeling you get when anything too cold hits a nerve. Game changer if you’re a fan of frozen cocktails or just drinking about a litre of iced water a day like me.

3. Whitening Toothpastes That Don’t Burn Your Mouth
No one wants to look in the mirror and see their smile dulled out by coffee or BBQ sauce. But a lot of whitening toothpastes are either too abrasive or do absolutely nothing. I’ve had decent results with a few effective whitening toothpastes that lift surface stains without wrecking your enamel or making your gums sting.

A proper clean, a little bit of shine, and you’re good to go, especially handy if you’re not into whitening strips or fancy treatments.

4. Freshen Up Kits for On-the-Go Days
I always keep a mini kit in my bag or glove box once summer rolls around. A roll-on or spray deodorant, pack of wipes, and a face mist can make a massive difference when the day starts heating up. I’m not talking spa vibes here, just simple, effective, fresh. I also rate talc-free powder if you’re someone who gets a bit of rub or chafing in awkward places. It’s not glamorous but it works.

Pair that with a light body mist and you’re sorted for the pub, park or even a last-minute plan where you don’t want to turn up feeling like you’ve been walking through a greenhouse.

5. Foot Care, Because Sweaty Trainers Are No One’s Friend
Feet don’t get enough attention, but they should, especially when it’s hot. I’m not going to pretend I’m in the habit of booking pedicures, but I do make sure to keep my feet in decent condition in summer. A cooling foot spray, a bit of foot balm before bed, and breathable socks can make all the difference.

If you’re wearing slides or low trainers, cracked heels and dry skin aren’t the look. Sorting your feet out takes less than two minutes and makes everything more comfortable, especially if you’re walking a lot.

Good hygiene in summer isn’t just about looking decent, it’s about comfort, confidence, and not constantly wondering if you smell a bit too “human”. It doesn’t take loads of effort or expensive products, just a few smart switches that keep you feeling fresh when the heat’s on.

If you’ve got a go-to product I need to try, especially for warm weather, let me know. I’m always up for adding something new to the routine, anything that keeps me cool, clean, and not completely fed up by midday.
