Immerse yourself in a hobby
Distraction is always the best way to clear your mind; to put it simply, if you are caught up doing something else, you haven’t got time to be thinking about whatever is on your mind. Taking up a hobby where you can fully immerse yourself in it is a great choice. It could be that your new hobby is gaming, or taking long walks, so try a few things and see which works best for you – and make sure to give yourself time to get into it before you decide it doesn’t suit you.Unload to a professional
If you feel like there is simply too much going on in your mind and you need help untangling it all and making sense of things, is to talk to somebody who is trained and paid to be able to help you. A professional at The Awareness Centre is a great place to start when your brain is too loud and you find that you simply cannot quieten it down. It might seem scary and overwhelming to take the first steps when it comes to talking to a mental health expert, but the results are incredibly rewarding and worth any anxiety that you might be feeling.Spend time helping others
It’s hard to spend a lot of time in your own head when you are using your time to help others. Not only is working hard a great way to distract yourself, but helping other people is a fantastic way to learn more about other people, improve your communication skills and, ultimately, boost your self worth.Prioritise self care
Self care looks different for everybody, so it is down to you to establish exactly what kind of self care you really need. The cliched image of self care is a facemask in a bubble bath, but that might not necessarily be what makes you feel cared for – it could be something as simple as taking your work emails off your phone, or giving yourself half an hour to lay in a dark room before going back to a task. Listen to your body’s cues and make it a priority to do what you feel like doing.Embrace new surroundings
Sometimes things feel stagnant and you start to feel more in your head when you have been in the same place for too long and things aren’t looking like they are going to change anytime soon. A great way to combat this is to make an effort to go to somewhere new – even just on a day trip – and preferably somewhere that is entirely different to your usual surroundings. Going somewhere cold is sometimes a really good plan, because a blast of cold air as you go for a walk to unwind can leave you feeling refreshed and newly energised.
